Climate risk and the financial sector: sharing of good practices

The Sustainable Finance Platform

Working Group on Climate Risk: “As a financial institution discuss climate risks with customers”

In the financial sector, more attention should be paid to climate risks in meetings with customers. In the case of corporate clients, this mainly concerns the potential impact of climate risks on their business operations, and in the case of mortgage owners, for example, the sustainability of their homes in this regard. This is also important in the light of the Dutch financial sector's climate commitment. In addition, it is advisable for governments and supervisors to make relevant climate data public and quickly accessible, for example through a European ESG registry. These are two of the main conclusions published today in an anthology by a group of eight Dutch financial institutions, working together under the Sustainable Finance Platform.

In the anthology, ABN AMRO, APG, ING, Kempen, MN, Rabobank, Robeco and De Volksbank describe how they manage climate risks in their portfolios, and what the main insights and challenges are. They also make specific recommendations to the government, regulators and the financial sector as a whole.
